SEOUL (December
2006) With the threat of closure in the air, the remaining officers lead
a discussion on all the contributions and the positive impact the Seoul
Computer Club has had on the local community over the past 24 years, and
made it clear that if the club was to continue operating, some of the members
would have to "step up" and fill the vacant officer positions.
At the October meeting,
Vice President David Offley and Publicity & Activity Officer Steve
Carpenter indicated they would be unable to seek re-election to their offices,
and Treasurer Heidi Haugen indicated that she would also have to step down
in the near future. When the floor was opened for nominations, there were
no volunteers.
The elections were to
be held during the November meeting, however, due to the lack of nominations,
President Mark White decided to postponed the elections until December.
Just before the December meeting, the officers sent out a message informing
the members that if there were no nominations at the next meeting, there
may be no choice but to close down the club and return all of it's assets
to the USFK.
However, this time the
members responded, and by the end of the meeting the Seoul Computer Club
had three new officers: Kevin Aubart is the new Vice President, John
Ranum is Publicity Officer, and Willis Kim is now in the reactivated Activities
Officer position.
On behalf of all the
current officers and members of the club, we would like to extend our thanks
to the new officers for stepping up
and ensure the future
of the Seoul Computer Club as it enter it's 25th year of serving the Yongsan
/ Seoul / USFK Community.
